Halfmoon Packing & Outfitting is located north of Leadville , Colorado off of Highway 24. Halfmoon Packing & Outfitting offers the best rides near Vail, Avon and Breckenridge Colorado. All rides have incredible mountain views and pass old mining or logging sites and cabins. We offer horseback rides daily from May 13, 2023 depending on snow depth. We offer rides to all people 6 years old and older. We have limited capability for riders over 300 pounds.
Full Day Horseback Rides
Spend a day horse camping along a section the Colorado Trail. The ride will take you through dark timber, aspen groves and open fields as it climbs above timberline and 12,000 feet overlooking the valley below.
Hourly to Half Day Horseback Rides
Shorter rides of one hour to half day horseback rides depart from the stables and gain up to 1,300 feet in elevation. From the top of Mt Zion you sill see a panoramic view encompassing Leadville, Twin Lakes and Turquoise Lake. This ride will take three and a half to four hours depending on how fast you travel and how many pictures you take!
Horse drawn Wagon Rides
For those too young or unwilling to ride a horse we offer wagon rides. These rides are on wider trails than the normal horse rides but your family and friends on horseback can accompany the wagon.
Fall Colors
In late summer and early fall, when the temperatures cool and the bugs disappear we offer all our ride times with routes designed to maximize the brilliant colors of the changing leaves.
